African American Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Authors
by June K. Williams ©Buzzy Multimedia

Sci-Fi, Science Fiction
To celebrate Black History month I would like to share a few extraordinary African American Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror authors with you.

Samuel R. Delaney
April 1, 1942 -

Samuel “Chip” Delaney has the distinction of not only being the first known and notable African American Sci-Fi author but also the first openly gay Sci-Fi author as well. He has won both Hugo and Nebula awards for his work, and has had 19 novels published to date. His most notable and arguably his best novels are Dhalgren, Babel-17, The Einstein Intersection , Nova and The Fall of the Towers. Dhalgren in particular has garnered as much criticism as praise and due to my plebian taste doesn’t suit me nearly as well as the (to me) more accessible Babel-17 or The Einstein Intersection. Professor Delaney is still writing as well as teaching at Temple University.

BUZZY HELPS HAITI RELIEF EFFORT

Buzzy Multimedia, the t-shirt and audiobook company, is donating all proceeds from t-shirt sales on Friday, January 22, to the Doctors Without Borders relief effort in the earthquake-devastated country of Haiti.

Doctors Without Borders/Medicines Sans Frontiers is an international medical humanitarian organization working in over 60 countries to assist people whose survival is threatened by violence or catastrophe. The organization’s work is based on principles of medical ethics and impartiality to race, religion or political affiliation. As of Thursday, Doctors Without Borders announced on their website that they had been able to treat 1,000 people injured in the Haiti disaster in the first two days following the catastrophic quake on Tuesday, Jan. 12. The natural disaster in the impoverished island nation is estimated to have killed 50,000-100,000.

The need to help the many thousands of injured and homeless, and to raise the funds to do so, remains urgent. Buzzy Multimedia will give the entire purchase price of $14.99 for each t-shirt sold on Friday, Jan. 22 (shipping cost of per purchase not included). To see Buzzy’s many t-shirt designs, visit their website at www.buzzymultimedia.com Buzzy Multimedia accepts both PayPal and credit cards; additionally, they accept checks delivered via regular mail. For more information, contact Buzzy Multimedia through the link on their website.

Buzzy will donate the entire purchase price of any t-shirt.

Apocalypse 101:
What to Watch When the World Winds Down
by Theresa Bane
© Buzzy Multimedia

horror movies, horror films, horror flicks
How shall I kill thee, let me count the ways….For something like the last 32,000 years mankind has been boo-hoo-ing about one sort of apocalypse or another; more so now with Mayan calendar about to run out. Where there is an “end of times” scenario you can bet your bottom dollar that someone is taking it to the bank. I’m not talking about those folks who sell or give everything away to the poor so they can live it up at a commune till the end of time. No, those folks are a onetime profit, and hardly even worth mentioning. I am talking about the gift that keeps on giving – lifetime residual income from movie rights! Oh yea, that’s where the money is. Nothing sells out a theater or puts Netflix into a spin faster like the release of a planetary doom driven movie.

So, how many ways are there to destroy the earth and all of mankind as we know it? Just like getting to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop we many never have a truly definitive answer, but here are some of the ways we can get smote…with an appropriate Hollywood movie accompanying it of course.

Harry Dresden Meets Robert Langdon
By Martin Lambert

Is any sufficiently ancient wisdom indistinguishable from magic?

My apologies to Arthur C Clark for the paraphrase, but hopefully I have your curiosity piqued. As the old saying goes “opposites attract”. So perhaps this is the case with two current fiction authors, Dan Brown and Jim Butcher.
