This is NOT a feel good Christmas story. It takes a long look at some of the ugliest things people are capable of. It is brutal. For people like me who had a hard time with the battle scenes in Braveheart back in the day, be forewarned. Some of this can turn your stomach. Much of the film deals with research. It may be one of the few I have ever seen that makes research exciting.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Pt. 1

For those who are Potter fans this film will seem like coming home. This is not a film for young children even with the more violent pieces sanitized. Those who are not fans and have not read the books could find themselves missing chunks of meaningful cues unless they are very intuitive.
If you are new to Harry Potter I suggest this is not the first in the series that you should be watching or reading. There are things that have been cut and I admit I miss them. The core remains.

The Social Network – Movie Review

A movie about the creation of Facebook? Come on, that sounds more boring than that new Julia Roberts flick. Then again, it was directed by David Fincher (Fight Club, Panic Room, Benjamin Button). And I kind of like that Michael Cera knock-off Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland, Adventureland). Also, I’ve heard some Oscar buzz about the film, so I decided to give it a chance. I must say up-front, I came out of the theatre less-disappointed than I expected to be.
I’ll go ahead and say that The Social Network is a character driven drama, and the narrative itself is rather bland and unimpressive. The film follows Mark Zuckerberg (played by Jesse Eisenberg), creator and current CEO of the Facebook Corporation, as well as the youngest billionaire in the world. Mark is a “computer guy” studying at Harvard, trying desperately to separate himself from the rest of the academic elite.

INCEPTION

There is almost always a breakout film of the year and I would venture to say INCEPTION is that film. While it has dazzling special effects and extraordinary settings, the best thing about this film is the story and how it is revealed layer by layer to the audience, often with multiple layers unfolding simultaneously.
